Homebrew: Boundary Waters Wheat

•March 18, 2012 • Leave a Comment

I’ve been super down for homebrew lately, I guess it was the natural progression after I got the kegerator since it’s super easy not having to bottle. This weekend I brewed up an American style wheat it should be smooth with no clove taste and I ordered up some passion fruit extract to add to the secondary so I can do my own clone on one of my favorite beers Kona Brewing Co. Wailula Wheat.

I also brewed some fruit mead for Nicole, mead is super easy to make since it’s just basically fermented honey. I’ll add peach flavoring in the secondary. Should be yummy! Too bad mead takes 6 months to a year so it will be racked for a while!

Pointless?

The 510 has been running pretty rough lately and I have put off doing anything to the engine since I bought it because I knew it would eventually get an SR. It’s been 4 years though and the L16 is still running strong so I figured I would show it a little love and work on the body/brakes/suspension before I work on the engine swap.

I put a brand new weber 32/36 carb on with manual choke since the stock electric choke has been broken since I first got the car running. Then I swapped to an electronic distributor from a new Datsun, so no more points to adjust! While I was at it I re-wired the engine harness with a new ignition relay and removed the stock voltage regulator and starter relay since I have a single wire alternator and there has been a weird electrical problem somewhere that I have been chasing around. I still haven’t hooked up the choke cable and the car fires right up first turn now and idles great. Drives sooooo much smoother and doesn’t cycle when I turn it off. Very happy to finally have everything fixed correctly. Still need to change spark plugs do a valve adjustment, change the cool when it comes in and order a new radiator as the stock one is leaking but those things can wait for a little but.

Tanks and More AN Fittings

Welded up some more stuff today, finished the oil catch can and modified the stock powersteering reservoir with AN fittings to make the plumbing of the powersteering cooler a little cleaner.

Looking For Hood Clearance

•March 4, 2012 • 1 Comment

Still trying to figure out how to make the stock good clear the VH. So the first step was to cut the top off the intake manifold and weld it back up as short as possible without causing any disruption in airflow. Also welded up the EGR and a couple other holes I wont be using at the sane time.

Brake Master and Lines

•February 29, 2012 • 1 Comment

Cleaned and painted the brake booster from the Skyline and installed it on the S13 it clears the valve covers barely where the stock booster did not and the Skyline has a willwood pedal box so no use for it anymore. Then I picked up an N/A z32 master cylinder. I’ve always liked the pedal feel and balance of that master with z32 brakes. Lastly started on the new brake hardlines stock lines are ugly so I usually just bend up some new ones and tuck them under the firewall lip.

510 love

•February 22, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Lately I have been trying to spend some extra time keeping the 510 in one piece. I usually just beat the crap out of it until something breaks and then fix it or even better just half assed bandage back together to keep it running. Lately I have replaced the alternator, starter, starter again because the one rebuilt one I picked up from autozone was the wrong starter and died in a month or so, warranty replaced that one and the now the correct one is on. Finally ordered a steering wheel hub since the stock wheel had become just a metal ring since all the plastic had dried up and fell off. I’ve also had a turn signal switch since just after I started driving the car to replace the broken stalk so when I replaced the wheel I finally replaced the switch. All was good until the drivers side window stopped rolling down, it didn’t bother me too much till it started warming up again and I had to drive around with the window up. So I took the regulator out and lubed it all up. Well now it works great super smooth up and down. But it won’t stay up! So I had to rig up a steering stop so I could lock up the car tonight. Always 1 step forward and 2 steps backward!
